Who’s behind all the new and Arcane Anti Choice laws?
Meet Mrs. Yoest, the woman behind many of the new anti-choice laws and family planning legal impediments popping up everywhere. Who’s the $$$$$$$ behind her campaigns?
While groups like Operation Rescue suck up the spotlight with their theater Charmaine’s group, Americans United for Life (AUL) works behind the scenes quietly and effectively moving the front line of the Right Wing’s war on women’s rights, health, and choices.
Some look at her as a reasonable spokeswoman, however she came to the group by way of the SPLC listed hate group, Family Research Council. She’s just another dominionist craftily working behind the scenes state by state to re-saddle women with last century’s religious restrictions to health and abortion.
AUL’s sudden sweeping success in state legislatures came in like the tide with the Tea Party and GOP candidates elected last round. Prior to the 2010 elections getting the level of restrictions and barriers created in 2011 into law would have been impossible.
Yoest, the president and chief executive officer of Americans United for Life, a group that offers 39 pieces of model legislation for state lawmakers and advocates, is one of the key actors pushing a wave of highly restrictive – the other side would say dangerous and illegal – initiatives limiting access to abortion. AUL’s goal is to eat away at the underpinnings of the protections provided by Roe v. Wade – the landmark United States Supreme Court decision that extended the right to privacy to a woman’s decision to have an abortion – not necessarily to challenge it outright. At least not yet.
So far this year, AUL and other like-minded groups have caught their adversaries flat-footed; some 22 states have enacted a record 86 new measures in 2011, according to the Guttmacher Institute, which studies sexual and reproductive health and supports abortion rights.
